South Africa said a combined force of Cuban and Angolan troops suffered 200 dead in attacks on a dam South African troops were guarding inside Angola and that 12 South Africans were also killed. It said the Calueque dam, which supplies water to the northern region of the South African-controlled territory of Namibia, was attacked by land and air on Monday. South African forces reported destroying many tanks and armored personnel. One South African was killed in ground fighting, Johannesburg said, while 11 South Africans were killed in an air raid that damaged the dam wall, its electricity supply and the pipelines that carry water to northern Namibia, also known as South-West Africa.
