Avery International Corp. earnings jumped 38% to $22 million for the second quarter, compared to the same period a year ago. Sales increased 8% to $410 million from the 1987 quarter. The Pasadena company, a leading manufacturer of self-adhesive base materials, labels, tapes, office products and specialty chemicals, said the results reflect significant gains in sales and profitability in some of its core businesses in the United States and Europe.
