Sidewalk Cafe Syndrome

What a jolt that Paul Lasley and Elizabeth Harryman in “Eating Good French Cuisine at Affordable Prices” (June 19) would complain about a high-priced Paris hotel breakfast and suggest you head for Cafe de la Paix for 40 francs (about $7.40 U.S.). Any experienced traveler to Paris knows a “coffee-and. . . “ would be less than half that amount at sidewalk cafes and that Cafe de la Paix is for the “see-and-be-seen” tourist. As for La Cupole, on the left bank, as of June 1 it was involved in a complete rebuilding program and is apt to be boarded up for a very long time.
