Mobile-Home Zoning District in Santa Monica

The Santa Monica City Council, opening a public hearing on the city’s draft zoning code, reaffirmed an interest in creating a new mobile-home zoning district.
“The council has said on several occasions that we want to preserve the mobile-home parks,” Mayor James Conn said after several residents from the Mountain View Mobile Home Park voiced their concern that the parks may be sold to commercial developers if they are reclassified under the new zoning ordinance.
“The parks give average and below average-income families a plot of ground and a home,” said Shelby Robinson, head of the Mountain View Tenants Organization.
The comments came Tuesday night in the first public hearing on the zoning code, which is undergoing a major overhaul this year. Additional public hearings will be held July 26 and 27.
