The governor of a wealthy Argentine industrial province ran up an overwhelming lead in unofficial primary returns, and his opponent conceded defeat in their race to become next year’s presidential candidate of the ruling party, the Radical Civic Union. The triumph of Eduardo Angeloz, governor of Cordoba province in central Argentina, was assured when his only opponent, Luis Leon, threw in the towel shortly after polls closed. Scattered returns showed Angeloz leading Leon by margins of as much as 9-1 in their contest to succeed President Raul Alfonsin.
