Seventy Soviet inspectors sent to the United States to monitor compliance with the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty took up positions at six sites in four Western states. Led by a 22-man contingent that went to the Pershing 2 missile plant in Magna, Utah, the inspectors will check to see that the United States is complying with treaty provisions that call for the destruction of medium-range nuclear weapons, including cruise missiles. American inspection teams are conducting similar inspections in the Soviet Union. Besides Magna, Soviet inspectors arrived at the Army’s Dugway Proving Grounds, also in Utah, the General Dynamics plant in San Diego, the Army’s Ft. Huachuca and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona and the Pueblo Army Depot in Colorado.
