Leftist guerrillas in Peru killed 13 soldiers in an ambush, and army patrols killed 18 rebels in clashes high in the Andes, a military statement said. It said rebels lobbed grenades at a military truck as it returned from a civic action program Sunday near the town of Tingo Maria, in a jungle region 210 miles northeast of Lima where narcotics traffickers grow cocaine-producing plants. It said soldiers in Ayacucho province killed 15 guerrillas of the Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) movement in fighting last Thursday and killed three other rebels Saturday.
