Coast Guard Enters Cuba Waters for Rescue

MIAMI —
A U.S. Coast Guard cutter entered Cuban waters early today to rescue an American yachtsman whose powerless 30-foot sailboat was drifting toward Cuba, a spokesman said.
“We notified them that we were going in. We don’t do it very often,” Lt. Cmdr. Jim Simpson said, adding that the Cuban government made no objection to the rescue about 10 miles northwest of the island.
