U.S. Downing of Iran Air Flight 655

Share

As an Iranian-American I was outraged to hear that President Reagan in his letter to Congress states that (the U.S. downing of the plane and) murdering those innocent Iranians was “justified” and that “the incident is closed” (Part I, July 6). Is the man ruthless as well as being senile? What kind of attitude is this? The world feels revulsion of this senseless murder and yet our wonderful, popular President says it was justified and the matter is closed.

If Iran or any other country would have dared to kill one American, we would have been treated to every gory detail on television, on radio and in every newspaper in this country for months and years to come. But because the 290 people were Iranians, it was justified and the matter is closed.

And of course our wonderful President considers himself civilized, and Iranians barbarians. Please, someone out there, explain the meaning of “civilized” and “barbarian” to that man. Does he think those 66 children who were murdered were a bunch of flies?
