Federal Aviation Administration officials Saturday were looking into the cause of a helicopter crash at Van Nuys Airport that destroyed the aircraft but only slightly injured the pilot and a passenger.

The commuter-tour helicopter crashed at the airport Friday night soon after lifting off, authorities said.

The two injured occupants, whose identities were not immediately available, were treated at Northridge Hospital Medical Center and released, officials said. A third occupant of the three-seat helicopter was treated at the scene and released.

FAA representatives said the helicopter was demolished in the crash, which occured at 8:48 p.m. at the northwest corner of the airport. The helicopter was only off the ground a short distance when it went down, they said.
