Singer Stevie Wonder apparently is serious about running for mayor of Detroit. Last month Wonder, a Detroit native who was a childhood star for Motown Records, casually brought up the possibility and during a weekend appearance at a festival in Chicago, he repeated his intentions. “I’m not making a formal announcement,” he said. “I wouldn’t do that in Chicago. I would do it in Detroit. I’ll probably run in 1992.” Wonder also discussed national politics, praising Jesse Jackson. “He deserves any of the rights of any other American politician,” Wonder said. “The real bottom line is us having a leader for all.” Wonder dedicated his Saturday evening concert to the memory of Chicago Mayor Harold Washington, who died Nov. 25.
