Newport Beach-based American Toxxic Control has signed a letter of intent to acquire United States Filter Corp. of Whittier. Terms and conditions of the sale were not disclosed. United States Filter designs and manufactures automatic filtration systems for chemical, petroleum and food-processing industries. Founded by the current chairman of American Toxxic Control, Lou Purmont, United States Filter was sold to Ashland Oil in 1981 and reported more than $12 million in revenue last year. American Toxxic Control is a systems engineering concern involved in the reduction and elimination of hazardous materials at their source. Purmont said American Toxxic is in the midst of an acquisition program to link related companies in the development and implementation of toxic reduction systems.
