Caterpillar Inc. reported a 23% advance in second-quarter profit to $145 million, compared to the 1987 quarter. Revenue was up more than 26% to $2.6 billion. The Peoria, Ill.-based maker of construction and farm equipment credited the figures to price increases and higher sales volume overseas because of the weakness of the dollar.
