Anaheim police Wednesday arrested two people suspected in Sunday’s shooting death of an Anaheim woman and the critical wounding of her husband after tracing the suspects through fingerprints found at the crime scene.

The Anaheim couple had advertised a 1984 black Corvette for sale. Two people who answered the ad tied up and shot the couple, and then stole the car, Anaheim Police Lt. Marc Hedgpeth said.

A third suspect is still being sought, police said Wednesday.

Robert Clarence Taylor, 26, of Seal Beach was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to the Anaheim jail, Hedgpeth said. He was driving the Corvette when he was arrested.

Moments after arresting Taylor, police picked up Nanette Marie Scheid, 27. She was arrested at her job in Newport Beach on suspicion of murder and taken to the Anaheim jail, Hedgpeth said.

On Tuesday, police found one of Scheid’s fingerprints at the scene of the crime, Hedgpeth said. They ran the fingerprint through a CAL-ID computer, which is a data bank of prints taken in California.

The computer matched the latent prints from the crime scene with those of Scheid, and from that police were able to get three possible addresses for her.

Detectives, checking the locations, spotted a late-model, tan colored van in the driveway of a Sunset Beach residence. The van matched the description of the one used in the Anaheim murder and robbery, Hedgpeth said.

At that point, police began an around-the-clock stakeout of the house on 23rd Street in the hope that the woman, whom they had spotted there, would lead them to the other suspects, according to Hedgpeth.

On Wednesday morning, Taylor came out of the house and drove away in the stolen Corvette, which had been parked in the garage. He eventually drove east on the Garden Grove Freeway, followed by police in an unmarked car, Hedgpeth said.

Taylor left the freeway at Magnolia Street, turned onto Mays Avenue and got out of the car. At that point, police closed in on him. After checking the vehicle identification number because the license plate had been changed, police confirmed that it was the stolen car and arrested Taylor, Hedgpeth said.

The Corvette and the van have been impounded as evidence, Hedgpeth said.

On Sunday night, three assailants stole the Corvette from Ryoko and Kazumi Hanano at their Anaheim home.

During the robbery, Ryoko, 62, was shot to death. Her husband, Kazumi, 62, was also shot. He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where his condition is not being given out at the request of the family, the hospital said.

Police believe that the Hananos’ advertisement to sell the car attracted the assailants to the house.

The third suspect still at large Wednesday night is described as a white male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 190 pounds, with blond hair, a 5-inch ponytail and a mustache.

“We’ve been working around the clock on this thing for two days,” Hedgpeth said. “Now that we have two suspects and the two cars, we can focus much more on (the third) individual now.”
