Whirlpool Corp.’s earnings slipped 13% to $41.4 million in the second quarter, compared to a year ago. Sales for the Benton Harbor, Mich., appliance maker held steady at $1.1 billion. The company said the results were adversely affected by higher material costs not recovered through increased pricing, higher interest expense and weaker results from its kitchen cabinet business unit.
