Local News in Brief : Council Chooses New Mayor
The Hermosa Beach City Council has unanimously elected Councilman Jim Rosenberger mayor and council member June Williams mayor pro tem. They will serve 8-month terms.
Rosenberger replaces Etta Simpson in the primarily ceremonial post, which rotates among council members based on seniority.
“I don’t know if it’s a position of merit or punishment,” Rosenberger joked. He promised to streamline City Council meetings, over which he now presides.
His mother, Margaret, traveled 125 miles from Lemon Grove to see her son take over the mayoral post, causing Rosenberger to quip: “I don’t know if my mother showed up out of pride or disbelief.”
