Everyone Into the Sty

“Oink, Oink”--that’s the sound rising from the June 12 story, “How Campeau Won Federated.”

This chronicle of greed, money grubbing, grasping covetousness and avarice is a financial spectacle that seems touched by a note of admiration, as if these gents had done something worthwhile. A cabal of rapacious American lawyers and banks, along with the Canadian, Robert Campeau, ripped off America for scores of millions of dollars. Their scheme did not add one cent of productive capacity, wealth or quality to the United States. To the contrary, organizations are being destroyed, thousands of employees are being fired and proud enterprises have lost their luster.

This is no epic and it is perverse to hold these guys out as heroes. It proves again to the average American that these corporate takeovers are solely for the private gain of the few at the expense of the nation.
