Israeli soldiers shot and wounded three masked protesters who raised Palestinian flags in the West Bank town of Nablus, the army and hospital officials said. The army command said a patrol spotted four masked men in Nablus raising the flags, which are outlawed in Israel and the occupied territories. The army said the soldiers were forced to respond with gunfire when the four started hurling stones at them and that they wounded three protesters. Two suffered leg wounds and the third was struck in the abdomen. Scattered protests were reported in other parts of the West Bank and in Arab East Jerusalem, resulting in injuries to two youths and a woman, hospital sources said.
