The design for the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace has been approved by the Yorba Linda Planning Commission, with ground breaking scheduled for Nov. 18. Opening ceremonies are slated for early in 1990.
Located on an 8.1-acre site on the northeast corner of Eureka Avenue and Yorba Linda Boulevard, the project will include the wood-frame house where Nixon was born Jan. 13, 1913, a museum, library, 300-seat theater and gardens.
The city is purchasing the property from the Yorba Linda School District for $1.3 million, and an additional $25 million has been raised from private donors by the nonprofit Nixon Foundation.
Langdon Wilson Mumper Architects, Newport Beach, is the designer.
