HemaCare, a Sherman Oaks-based provider of blood products and services, reported a second-quarter profit of $99,150, contrasted with a loss of $185,706 a year earlier.
The profit, which equaled 3 cents a share, came on a 44% jump in HemaCare’s revenue to $1.1 million, from $765,805 a year ago.
HemaCare said the earnings improvement largely reflected a 48% increase in revenue, to $649,000 in the latest quarter, from the company’s therapeutic hemapheresis treatment. The treatment, which removes harmful substances from the blood, is given to patients with such diseases as leukemia.
For the first half of the year, HemaCare earned $155,342, or 5 cents a share, contrasted with a $303,874 loss a year ago. Six-month revenue rose to $2.17 million from $1.52 million.
