Automatic Door on Garage Kills San Dimas Boy, 4

A 4-year-old boy was killed Monday when he attempted to run beneath an automatic garage door at his home in San Dimas, authorities said.

Brandon Mitchell May was inside the garage at his home in the 900 block of Calle Serra when he apparently activated the door and went outside, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

He then tried to run back into the garage as the door was closing, said Deputy Kathryn Nielsen. The boy was trapped beneath the door and was crushed, the deputy said.

A passing delivery truck driver freed the boy and called his mother, Leonette May, who is a physician. She administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but was unable to revive her son. He was taken to San Dimas Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
