THE STRIKE

Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

Those laff-rioters at the Improv think it’s time for writers and producers to party. In an effort to boost the morale of Hollywood’s temporarily unemployed during the 20-week-old writers strike, the Improv will host two gala “Lift Your Spirits” parties with free food and comedy for the Writers Guild of America on July 25 and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on August 1. Said co-owner Mark Lonow: “Whatever we can do to soothe the savage beast is our purpose. We’re a place where producers and writers socialize, and if we can be a go-between it would please us to no end.”
