Peace in Nicaragua

You suggest that the Nicaraguan government overreacted in expelling the U.S. diplomats because its own diplomats in this country encourage opposition to U.S. policy just as Ambassador Richard Melton encouraged opposition to Nicaraguan policy. The trouble is that the U.S. sauce for the Nicaraguan goose is a lethal mix of hysteria, bullying, bribery, violence, and revolution. The Nicaraguan sauce for the U.S. gander is a cry for justice, reason, and a specific policy change that could be peacefully brought about by our government with no threat to U.S. institutions.

How could anyone equate the awesome material power that this rich nation is able to project in its poor neighbor with what little clout Nicaragua has here? If there is any evidence that Ambassador Carlos Tunnermann was contributing to the overthrow of the U.S. government then he should have been offered access to a mental-health care facility rather than expulsion. Melton, on the other hand, must have known exactly what he was doing in creating further difficulties in a country that has already suffered far too much from the U.S. mixing in its affairs.
