Beverly Enterprises Inc. reported second-quarter profit of $111,000, contrasted with a loss of $21.6 million a year ago. The 1987 results included a pretax charge of $52 million for the loss on disposal of certain medical equipment assets plus increases in reserves for self-insurance programs and patient receivables. The Pasadena firm runs nursing facilities, pharmacies, retirement-living projects and home-health agencies.
