Thirteen countries have pledged to contribute $100 million for aid to war-ravaged Afghanistan, Sadruddin Aga Khan, the U.N. coordinator for humanitarian and economic assistance for Afghanistan, told a U.N. meeting in Geneva. He said other major donor nations will soon announce contributions. He also said he plans to call a pledging conference in the fall. The United Nations last month launched a $1.16-billion appeal for help in Afghanistan’s reconstruction and rehabilitation.
