ATLANTA — The Democratic National Committee added two vice chairmen today, one each from the camps of Michael S. Dukakis and Jesse Jackson, in new evidence of efforts at party unity.
The new appointees are New Orleans Mayor Sidney Barthelemy, a Jackson supporter, and Rick Weiner, a Dukakis supporter who is chairman of the Michigan State Democratic Party.
The committee added 18 members in all, making a total of 396, including Jackson’s campaign manager, Ron Brown, and Jackson aide Willie Barrow.
A Dukakis aide, Will Robinson, said of today’s action, “It’s fine; we’re all comfortable together.”
Party Chairman Paul Kirk said: “This is a time we need everyone. We must have everyone for victory in November.”
