The U. S. Olympic track and field trials in Indianapolis came to an abrupt end Thursday for Mike Tully of Encino and Darcy Arreola of Cal State Northridge.
Tully, the 1984 Olympic silver medalist in the pole vault, was attempting to qualify for his third Olympic team, but after missing his initial attempt at 18-4, he withdrew with an injured right Achilles’ tendon.
Arreola, the NCAA Division II champion in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters, placed 11th in the second semifinal of the 1,500 meters in 4:18.48. She has a personal best of 4:15.35.
Diana Richburg of the Puma track club won in 4:11.35.
The top five finishers in each heat plus the next two fastest runners qualified for Saturday’s 1,500 final.
