Chavez Begins New Fast to Spotlight Boycott

DELANO, Calif. — Cesar Chavez, who fasted as a tactic to promote early struggles in his farm labor movement, has begun a new fast to call attention to his boycott of California table grapes. Chavez, 61, began fasting Sunday at Forty Acres, the compound at Delano where the United Farm Workers president first began his fight for labor contracts with table grape growers a quarter of a century ago.
