If you weren’t in Philadelphia over the weekend, you soitenly missed something: the second annual Three Stooges convention, a treasure trove of Stoogeiana that included screenings, memorabilia and appearances by Stooge relatives and colleagues. Among the highlights were several spontaneous pie fights and a “Shemp-a-thon,” that being a marathon of films featuring Samuel (Shemp) Howard after he ended his association with Moe Howard and Larry Fine in the early ‘30s due to a money dispute. (He came back to the Stooges fold after Jerome “Curly” Howard fell ill.) More than 1,000 Stoogeophiles attended the convention. Moe was the last original member of the pratfalling, face-slapping troupe. He died in 1975.
