Pacific Enterprises reported a 23% decrease in second-quarter earnings. The Los Angeles-based holding company, which owns Southern California Gas Co., Thrifty Corp. and an oil and gas exploration and production business, said lower earnings from the utility, lower oil prices and higher interest expenses contributed to the drop. Thrifty’s earnings for the quarter increased 20% over the like period of 1987.
