Local News in Brief : Anaheim : Clarification Asked on Judge’s ‘Big A’ Ruling

Share

Attorneys for the city of Anaheim and Anaheim Stadium Associates asked Superior Court Judge Frank Domenichini Monday to clarify points in his June 14 ruling on a proposed high-rise development on the Anaheim Stadium parking lot.

The case involves a 5-year-old lawsuit filed by the California Angels baseball team seeking to block the city and ASA, a partnership including Los Angeles Rams football owner Georgia Frontiere, from building the business complex on the 146-acre parking lot.

Monday was the deadline for all sides to respond to the judge’s tentative ruling, which barred the office complex without prior approval of the baseball team.

Domenichini ruled that the Angels have an absolute right to 12,000 surface parking spaces into the 21st Century. But he also held that any land that is left over after meeting the Angels’ parking needs may be developed legally by the city or used for any other purpose.

Alfred E. Augustini, an attorney for the partnership, said he is seeking clarification on several issues, including the number of bus stalls that the Angels are entitled to and the location of the proposed parking spaces.

An Angels spokesman said the club was pleased with the judge’s ruling at it stands and would not seek to amend it.

The judge will take the proposals under consideration; a final ruling on the lawsuit is expected later this summer.
