First Lady to Attend Funeral for Vanderbilt’s Son

WASHINGTON —
Nancy Reagan will travel to New York today to attend the funeral of Carter V. Cooper, the son of fashion designer Gloria Vanderbilt, the First Lady’s press secretary announced.
Mrs. Reagan was going to New York “to give comfort to a dear and old friend,” Elaine Crispen said Monday.
Cooper, 23, jumped from the 14th floor terrace of his mother’s Manhattan apartment Friday.
