LTV Steel Corp., the nation’s No. 2 steelmaker, said it is joining No. 3 Bethlehem Steel Corp. in boosting prices on flat-rolled products by $15 to $30 a ton, effective Jan. 1. The moves appear to undercut USX Corp.’s efforts to raise its prices on Oct. 1. Inland and Armco, the fourth- and fifth-largest steelmakers respectively, said they had not decided whether to follow suit. Officials of No. 6 National Steel could not be reached for comment. The affected products include sheet steel used in automobiles, appliances, office furniture and a variety of other consumer goods.
