SAWDUST FESTIVAL AT A GLANCE

ADDRESS: 133 Laguna Canyon Road., Laguna Beach. (714) 494-3030.
ATTRACTIONS: 221 artists exhibiting in 160 booths on 2 1/2 acres. Festival runs through Aug. 28.
HOURS: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
PARKING: Park at meters along Laguna Canyon Road or at the free lot just east of festival grounds on the north side of street. Tram ride to grounds costs 50 cents.
MOST UNUSUAL BOOTH: Dion Wright’s booth (No. 519) filled with discarded metals and bric-a-brac and his sculptures of welded spoons. Wright also provides demonstrations at various times throughout the festival; check bulletin board at festival entrance for day and times.
BEST PLACE TO TAKE THE KIDS: To Star Shields (No. 410), where children are transformed into dreamy creatures covered with stardust and clouds and a variety of other ornaments painted by airbrush. $6 for a half-face or $2 for a tattoo.
QUICK BITES: Sawdust offers a wide range at the following spots: Suzanne’s Catering has salads and sandwiches; Casa Olamendi’s has Mexican lunches; Idaho and Italy (an offshoot of Dining at the Ritz restaurant) has stuffed baked potatoes and a variety of pastas; and the Orange Place has fruit shakes and other drinks. Beer, wine, sodas and popcorn can also be purchased.
