Phyllis Hines and John Frey each qualified in their third cycling event Thursday as members of the winning four-woman and four-man team trial teams at the U.S. Olympic trials.

Hines, of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Frey, of Albuquerque, N.M., won their respective women’s and men’s individual time trials last weekend, and both were on the winning two-woman and two-man time trial teams Tuesday.

The Olympic selection trials and the National Championships are being held simultaneously, and Thursday’s victories were Hines’ and Frey’s second national titles.

Frey’s winning Ten Speed Drive four-man team has won the national title the past four years. Riding with Frey were Norm Alvis of Sacramento, Kent Bostick of Corrales, N.M., and Mark Waite of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Ten Speed Drive finished the 100-kilometer race almost two minutes ahead of the second-place team of Andy Paulin, Tony Palmer, John Stenner and Jeff Hartman. The winning time was 2 hours 4 minutes 15.44 seconds.

Team Lycra’s winning four-woman team included Hines, Jeanne Golay of Hollywood, Susan Ehlers of San Diego and Meg Gordon of Coscob, Conn.

The trials continue Saturday with three qualifying heats for the men’s road race Sunday. The women ride only Sunday. They race again on Tuesday and Thursday on a road course similar to the one the road racers will ride at Seoul.

The top two riders in the road races for both the men and the women will go on the Olympic road racing team, along with a third rider for each team to be named by the coaches next Thursday at the conclusion of the trials.
