Aetna Life & Casualty Co.’s second-quarter profit was $136 million, compared to $248 million for the same period last year. The Hartford, Conn., firm’s 1988 earnings reflect a $45.1-million after-tax charge related to the reorganization plan of A. H. Robins Co., which is an addition to reserves previously established by Aetna for insurance obligations to Robins. Last year’s results reflected extraordinary tax benefits of $24 million from operating loss carryforwards, the company said.
