Rookies Don’t Deserve More Than Veterans

Share

Every year it’s the same--big-name draft picks have aligned themselves with big-shot agents to negotiate big contracts for services they have yet to prove they can provide. Meanwhile, seasoned veterans sit back and wonder, as we all do, why a player who has demonstrated talent at the college level can command an exorbitant salary when he has yet to touch the football with the big guys.

It seems more logical that if the new talent came into the league at a base salary with built-in incentives that would escalate with levels of performance, the player could not only have the extra motivation to do well but also would be paid accordingly--as it should be.
