Democratic Convention

Talk, at this time, of Jesse Jackson in ’92 is both shocking and shameful. It is of a piece with the reverend’s generally irresponsible behavior subsequent to Dukakis’ nailing down the Democratic Party nomination in the June primaries. There may well be a black President in our lifetime, as Jackson has said (why not?), but it ain’t gonna be Jesse. Rather, someone who has gone through the crucible of serving in lesser capacities, with skills other than merely oratorical. Important as these may be, they are simply not enough to merit becoming President of these United States.
