Yellowstone National Park officials reopened areas of the park that had been closed because of a series of blazes that charred more than 100,000 acres of the park, and firefighters used hand tools to choke the last embers of a fire that destroyed 15 homes at Rapid City, S. D. Costa Dillon, fire information officer, said that the easing of fire activity in the park allowed traffic to flow through the south entrance, which links western Wyoming with the popular Grant Village and Old Faithful visitor areas. The largest fire in the park, the 68,035-acre Clover Mist, did not grow significantly during the weekend, Dillon said.
