Entertainer Sonny Bono spent just under $100,000 on his quest to become mayor of Palm Springs, a job for which he is paid $15,000 a year. Bono’s campaign spent $99,967 on the April 12 election in which he received 4,858 votes to beat six challengers, according to his campaign report. That adds up to a little more than $20 per vote. Although Bono raised only $25,738, he financed much of his campaign through the sale of election-related T-shirts, bumper stickers and political pins.
