Monrovia : Unity Center Closes Doors

Share

Unable to find a relocation site, the Monrovia Unity Center closed its doors at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church on Monday.

The nonprofit center, which provided food, clothing and legal advice to more than 10,000 people last year, was asked to leave because the church needs more space for its parishioners and because of concerns over problems caused by some of the people drawn to the center.

“We’re still actively looking” for a temporary home for the center, said Sylvia Acuna, vice president of the Monrovia-Duarte Board of Realtors. The board, which provided food to feed 300 families last Christmas, has worked closely with the center for four years.
