A Pack of Spies

Bernard Henderson’s attempt to elicit sympathy for his daughter, Anne Henderson-Pollard, by distilling his argument that she “was convicted of something that millions of people in this country are guilty of--standing by their loved ones” is a canard that insults the judgment and sensitivities of any patriotic American (“To Free a Spy’s Wife” by Steve Braun, July 18).

As a loyal American, a naturalized citizen and a military intelligence officer, I categorically reject and am personally affronted by Henderson’s clumsy, self-serving effort to provide an excuse for a blatantly mercenary act of selling this nation’s secrets.

There was simply no circumstance or justification for Jonathan Jay Pollard, entrusted with the safekeeping of information vital to this nation’s security, and with the collusion of Anne Henderson-Pollard, to sell this intelligence to Israel. Pollard and his wife are nothing more than traitors deserving of all Americans’ enmity and disgust. Attempts by Bernard Henderson and others to mollify and vindicate the crime of his daughter and her husband are simply misguided and suspicious.
