Nolan E. Penn, professor of psychiatry at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, has been named an associate chancellor of the university, UCSD Chancellor Richard C. Atkinson has announced.

Penn will serve as senior adviser to the chancellor on affirmative action matters, Atkinson said. Penn replaces Faustine Solis, professor of community and family medicine, who last month completed a four-year term as the campus affirmative action adviser.

Penn joined the School of Medicine in 1970 and has held a variety of special curriculum and health positions during his tenure.
