GREENVILLE, S.C. — A man who said he would “have to kill everyone who was not a born-again Christian” tried to storm the locked cockpit door of a jetliner as it was preparing to land, authorities said Saturday.
The Delta Air Lines DC-9 landed safely at Greenville-Spartanburg airport Friday morning. Flight 925 from Atlanta had 47 passengers and crew members.
Ricky Lavern Burdette, 40, of Anderson, S.C., was arrested and charged with assaulting, intimidating and threatening a flight attendant, federal court documents said. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 if convicted, said Will Lucius, an assistant U.S. attorney. U.S. Magistrate William Catoe Jr. set bond at $250,000.
