1984 ‘Olympic Army’ Workers

Share

Your front-page article by Peter King on the “Olympic Army” (July 28) was very exciting and affecting. It left me exhilarated for what had made a successful Los Angeles event, but at the same time feeling disheartened for the enthusiastic, energetic Olympic staff which was disbanded.

Although tension and pressure were necessary parts of accomplishment in 1984 in order to be ready by the opening gun, I wonder if that would be necessary at this point in order to re-energize this same Olympic Army. As King stated, wherever these people gather together, the strong bonds still exist.

With all of the competence boiling just below the surface of their everyday lives, I find myself thinking that these capabilities could be put to good use in organizing community projects such as housing for the homeless or food for the hungry.
