‘Rent Control Is Missing Its Target’

Letters, headlines and people scream about taxes, crime and other things but I’m going to scream about greedy landlords!

Year after year my landlord increases my rent and gives nothing in return. From $425 a month he has raised it to $700!

In the 10 years I have lived here, I have planted a garden on two sides, maintained everything within my space--clipped the hedge, trimmed the tree, fixed minor plumbing and washed the big windows. I even told him I would paint the front porch if he would give me the paint.

I feel like I’m caught in the jaws of a shark. Is there no cap on rent?

I am 88 and trying to maintain my living standards on my savings. How can I if he keeps narrowing my margin to the breaking point?
