Local News in Brief : Criminal Poster Program

Share

Taking a cue from a television program that profiles suspected criminals on the run and solicits the help of viewers in catching them, Los Angeles officials Tuesday unveiled a plan to distribute wanted posters with the paychecks of 38,000 city employees.

Workers will be asked to call police if they recognize any of the suspects. Deputy Police Chief Bernard Parks said that criteria for inclusion on the posters will be the seriousness of the crime, a belief that the suspect is still in the area and that publicity would help in apprehension.

The posters will be included with city paychecks released today, and a new poster will be distributed every two months during the one-year program, City Controller Rick Tuttle said.
