Local News in Brief : Teamster Case Sentence

Share

A former El Monte Teamsters Union official was sentenced Tuesday to four months in jail and 18 months probation for accepting money to guarantee labor peace on a film production.

Russell J. Massetta, former labor organizer for Teamsters Local 848, was also barred from holding any union office for the next five years.

Massetta, who is the son-in-law of reputed Los Angeles Mafia boss Peter J. Milano, admitted meeting with an undercover FBI agent posing as a film producer and discussing a $25,000 payment to secure labor peace for filming in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

Massetta backed out of the deal after accepting only $200, however, claiming that he had learned that there was no need to pay for labor peace on non-union productions in Hollywood.

Massetta pleaded guilty in June to a misdemeanor conspiracy charge.
