Van Nuys Bowler Romeo 3rd in Tempe Open

After finishing fourth in last week’s Ladies Pro Bowlers Tour event in Englewood, Colo., Robin Romeo of Van Nuys is attempting to improve her standing this week in the $35,000 Tempe Open in Tempe, Ariz.

Romeo, with a three-day total of 3,940 pins, is in third place, 88 behind tournament-leader Jeanne Maiden of Solon, Ohio.

Maiden, seeking her seventh career title and second of 1988, averaged 224 a game to finish with an 18-game total of 4,028. Terri Brice of Moses Lake, Wash., is second with 3,987.

After play today, the top five bowlers advance to Thursday night’s stepladder finals.
