American Airlines announced plans to base as many as 700 pilots and flight attendants in south Florida, leaving it ready to capitalize on problems facing Eastern Airlines and Pan American World Airways. Dallas-based American also plans to add a flight attendant crew base in Nashville, Tenn., one of five American hubs. American also has hubs in Dallas-Ft. Worth, Chicago, Raleigh-Durham and San Juan. The Miami and Nashville crew bases bring American’s total crew bases to 12. American said it will staff a new flight attendant crew base in Nashville with 75 flight attendants in October.
